CHAPTER 21
ERICH
âWhy do you walk, Great Protector?â Sarah asked.
âPlease, itâs Erich,â I said. She nodded. âI am ashamed to say that I cannot fly. At least not yet.â
âWhat is stopping you?â Sarah asked. Her tall strong frame moved with agility over the rough terrain as we made our way from the palace over the ground. There was something about her that reminded me of someone. I couldnât put my finger on it, though, and it was driving me crazy.
âI donât know why Iâm struggling with it,â I admitted. âNever flew before and donât really know how to start.â
âIf I may,â she began, âperhaps I could introduce you to someone who could help you.â
âI would like that, thank you,â I said gratefully. A boom echoed off the stone ground and walls. Sarah and I both looked off in the direction of the sound. âWhatâs that?â
âThanatosâs allies are trying to break through the Labyrinth. They want the weapon at the center,â she answered.
âWhatâs at the center?â
âThe Harpe,â she answered.
âWait, what? The Harpe is down here? The knife that Zeus used to kill his father?â I yelled.
âThat would be the one. Zeus wielded the weapon for a long time, but it was seen as a power that wasnât needed, so it was hidden. Many of the great beasts and weapons from our history have been moved down here. With all the space and need for security, this was the perfect place to store powerful relics the gods didnât want each other, or anyone else, getting their hands on. The Harpe can cut through just about anything, including killing another god. Itâs a very powerful weapon,â she explained.
âThen we have to get it out of there! We canât allow Thanatos to get it. If he does, that will be it for the underworld. It will fall to his power, and he will make sure the evil souls from history are allowed to leave and walk Earth as they please,â I explained loudly, as my heart raced just thinking about the destruction a weapon like that would create in the hands of an evil soul.
âThe Harpe was removed and is in good hands, I assure you. Jaxton and I decided to just let these fools bang against the walls of the Labyrinth until they are bloody. Better they focus on that than escaping,â she explained with a mischievous grin.
âSmart, and a relief,â I sighed. âWould one of the relics that Hades hid down here happen to be his Helm?â
âThe Helm has not been in the underworld for a very long time. Hades took it and had it hidden. The location he kept completely to himself. Even Persephone didnât know. She didnât want to. The Helm is Hadesâ ultimate weapon. It not only can render the wearer invisible, but it also grants them ultimate control over this realm. It amplifies that wearerâs power. If it were to fall into the wrong hands, it would be catastrophic. Hades knew this and hid it long before all this started happening.
